“DREAMS TO REALITY: MONICA MOYO’S JOURNEY OF GROWTH AND EMPOWERMENT THROUGH THE RISE PROGRAM”
“Today, I am proud to say that I have transitioned into the role of a Community Prevention Facilitator, focusing on program implementation. In this position, I lead initiatives aimed at preventing HIV transmission, promoting sexual and reproductive health, and addressing gender-based issues within our community. I am driven by the desire to create a positive impact and empower others just as I was empowered through the Dreams Project.” These are the words from the Empowered and mentored Monica.
Monica Moyo’s journey with the DREAMS-RISE Program has been nothing short of transformative. Growing up in Insiza District, she faced numerous challenges and limitations, particularly when it came to envisioning a future beyond the traditional roles assigned to women in her community. However, everything changed when she was enrolled as a rights holder in the DREAMS-RISE Program in 2020.
Through the program, Monica was exposed to a world of possibilities. She gained essential knowledge and skills in HIV prevention, gender norms, and financial literacy, which not only broadened her perspective but also ignited a passion within her to create positive change in her community. Monica’s active participation in the program activities caught the attention of the program and her leadership potential and strong communication skills were recognized. She got an opportunity to serve as an out-of-school club facilitator, allowing her to engage with other young women and share her knowledge in a supportive and inclusive environment.
In 2023, Monica’s commitment and dedication were further acknowledged as she was selected to serve as a Prevention Service and Linkages Ambassador for the Program in Insiza District. This role allowed her to establish crucial linkages between health services and the community, ensuring that AGYW have access to vital resources and support. The DREAMS-RISE Program has not only shaped Monica’s personal growth but has also enabled her to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of those around her.
Monica’s journey is a testament to the power of education, support, and opportunities in transforming lives and communities. She represents a pool of over 90 Community prevention Facilitators (CPFs) under the DREAMS-RISE Program’s “Immersion approach” which works with AGYW who are from the same community they live in. The approach increases community ownership, relatability and understanding of the local context as well as promoting sustainability in providing needs-based services to AGYW. Monica’s story is an inspiration to many and a reminder of the impact that can be made when individuals are given the chance to thrive.
